Active Travel
We are encouraging active travel to and from school. Whether it's walking, scooting, cycling, or using a “park and stride” approach (parking a 10-minute walk from school and walking the rest).
This offers a wide range of benefits for children, families, and the environment. It’s a fantastic way to build healthy routines and support children’s physical well-being, helping them reach the government’s recommended 60 minutes of daily exercise.
The fresh air and movement are also calming, promoting mental well-being and providing a valuable chance to talk and connect with your child at the start and end of the school day. Active travel has also been shown to improve children’s focus and concentration in class, setting them up for a successful day of learning and building good habits for life. Our school is proud to be supported by Living Streets and takes part in the WOW, Walk to School Travel Tracker, which encourages all children who can travel in an active way to do so.
To celebrate their efforts, children are rewarded with a different WOW badge each month, all made from recycled plastic that was destined for landfill—a great incentive that also helps the planet. By choosing active travel, you're not only supporting your child’s health and learning, but also helping to reduce traffic and congestion around the school, creating a safer and cleaner environment for everyone. Even small changes can have a big impact—why not give it a go?
